May is national Mental Health Month! This is the time we raise awareness and increase understanding of mental health issues and their treatments and prevalence, both in America and globally. Mental Health Month provides us with a golden opportunity to combat stigma and provide accurate information. 1 in 5 adults in the United States are affected by mental illness, and the lack of access to research, treatment options, insurance coverage, and support makes getting the necessary care incredibly difficult. May brings to the surface a chance for us to make a difference more visibly and garner more support than is readily available the rest of the year. The Institute for Mental Health Research is dedicated to de-stigmatizing mental illness, providing access to educational events focusing on mental health issues, and contributing meaningfully to the body of research we have about mental illness. If you’re interested in making a difference and getting involved with our mission, we gladly accept donations that are funneled into funding research and creating educational events that allow us to expand on and spread knowledge of mental illnesses. Anything you’re able to give helps us to make an impact!
