Tens of millions of people suffer from mental illness across every age, ethnicity, religion and economic level. Mental wellbeing impacts individuals as well as communities, employers, institutions of learning, and even the national GDP.
With research funding dollars at an all-time low in the U.S., the Institute for Mental Health Research (IMHR) is working to support the discoveries that will make a difference for so many, and place Arizona at the forefront of transforming mental health through research.
A gift to IMHR helps provide vital seed funding to scientists pursuing innovative, early-stage mental health research that addresses the most complex and problematic issues facing society today. Our goal is to move research forward to provide better diagnosis and prevention strategies, new treatments, and ultimately, accessible cures for mood, emotional, psychological, and brain disorders.
Additionally, your support enables IMHR to continue providing free educational opportunities focused on bringing discovery from cutting-edge mental health researchers to those who need the information most in our community.
IMHR is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is obligated to raise public funds to fulfill its mission. All gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

In April 2003, Ben was diagnosed with chronic depression and bipolar disorder seven years after his mother’s death following the same diagnosis.
“I owe my life to decades of research and scientific advances, and the generosity of donors that made it possible."
For a limited time, all donations will be matched, up to $80,000, and people like Ben will benefit.
This year, Ben and his family are doing well and expressing their gratitude.
“My views on life have changed tremendously since my diagnosis, and it’s entirely due to improvements in treatment, medication and therapy. As I’ve been able to take control of my life again, I have committed to give back. I support the Institute for Mental Health Research for the precious support they offer researchers right here in Arizona.”
Ben has resumed his career and savors the joys of family life with his wife Lilly, and his children Annie and Michael.
