DID YOU KNOW

About half of all people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with a mental disorder at some point in their lifetime. If it’s not you, it’s someone you care about. That is why we are all in this together.

Mental disorders affect people of all ages and ethnicities, but some populations are disproportionately affected. Research suggests that only half of all people with mental disorders get the treatment they need.

We instinctively know that mental and physical health are closely connected. Mental disorders like depression and anxiety affect our ability to take part in healthy behaviors, including the things we need to do to survive (such as succeeding in employment and educational endeavors). Similarly, physical health problems can make it harder for people to get treatment for mental disorders. And mental disorders increase the likelihood and severity of physical disorders.

Without research, we would never have reached the milestones we have in prevention and treatment. But we have a long way to go. By supporting quality, innovative research, we can all pitch in to further the cause, and improve health and quality of life for all.
